As we were traveling from New Delhi to Haridwar, I took this picture in one of the railway station where the train stopped by. Delhi to Haridwar is a over night journey, usually its much faster Via Car, but we preferred the train.

. Railways were first introduced to India in 1853 by the British. By 1947, the year of India’s independence, there were 42 rail systems. In the year 1951 all the railway systems were nationalized as one unit, becoming one of the largest networks in the world. Indian Railways operates both long distance and suburban rail systems on a multi-gauge network of broad, metre and narrow gauges. It also owns locomotive and coach production facilities.
